Success at 2021 Australian National Online Festival of Bands

Waratah Brass and Waratah Brass Academy Band have enjoyed a very successful campaign at the 2021 Australian National Online Festival of Bands.  Due to the COVID pandemic, the competition was conducted by submitting videos which were adjudicated and livestreamed (instead of the usual in person competition).

Waratah Brass Academy Band entered the D Grade Brass Hymn section with “Dear Lord and Father of Mankind” Arr Cecil Bolton & Eric Banks and Concert Item section with “Moses, Get Down” by Barry Gott.  Their hard work and skill earned them Gold in both sections.

Waratah Brass entered the B Grade Brass Hymn with “I’ll Walk With God” by Nicholas Brodszky; Arr. Goff Richards, Major Own Choice with “The Year of the Dragon” by Philip Sparke, Concert Item with “Horizons” by Paul Lovatt-Cooper and March with “Simoraine” by Clive Barraclough.  Their hard work and skill earning Platinum in the Hymn and Major Own Choice and Gold in the Concert Item and March.

A fabulous result for the bands and their musical directors Therese Hayden and Stephen Grice!

2020 NSW State Band Festival Online Results

Sunday November 15th was a fabulous day for our organization at the NSW State Band Festival Online.

Waratah Brass Academy Band have improved dramatically over the last year despite the challenges they faced with the COVID pandemic.  They entered four categories in the Open D Grade Brass section and won/placed in three:
  • tied 1st in the Concert Item
  • tied 3rd in the Sacred Item
  • tied 3rd in the Major Own Choice
Waratah Brass were successful in retaining their position as NSW B Grade state champions.  The results were:
  • 1st in the Sacred Item
  • 1st in the Major Own Choice
  • 1st in the March
  • tied 1st in the Concert Item
It was an interesting change to make recordings and submit them but something both bands quite enjoyed – especially in the absence of other options.

Congratulations to the both bands and their Musical Directors and special thanks to David Jarrett for his time, equipment and expertise producing the recordings
