The Waratah Brass Academy Band (WBAB) was formed in 2011 to give local community members the opportunity to learn to play a brass or percussion instrument. From small beginnings, the band has grown into a competent and autonomous brass band operating within the Waratah Brass – Newcastle organisation.
WBAB is a progressive and welcoming band, with a focus on new learners, intermediate players, and those looking for a vehicle to hone their music skills. Our group has players of all ages and abilities led by Musical Director Therese Hayden, a Life Member of Waratah Brass who is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and love of brass bands and brass music.
We perform a regular concert series at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, annually at local Anzac Day services and at local Bands In The Park events. As a competitive D Grade band, Waratah Brass Academy Band also compete in local and state band championships each year.
Our members have access to instruments, music, and resources at an affordable term rate, with family discounts and Creative Kids available. The band rehearses every Tuesday evening.
