Waratah Brass: A Community Brass Band with a Proud History

Waratah Brass was formed on 9th September 1884 after a public meeting was held to discuss the formation of a community brass band.  In the 140 years since, the band has been a mainstay of the local community.

Today, Waratah Brass is a competitive A Grade band – the only one in the Hunter – competing in local, state and national band championships each year.

Our band members are local amateur players who are committed to excellence in music and to providing entertainment for our audiences. We dedicate our time to honing our musical skills for the enjoyment of performing and competing in a brass band.

We are also actively engaged in our community, supporting local Anzac Day services, performing carols at Christmas and presenting a regular concert series at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre.  We also participate in annual events such as the Stroud Brick Throwing event, the Music of the Guns concert in conjunction with the Australian Army Band Newcastle and many more.

The band rehearses every Tuesday evening.
